B-a-n-a-n-a-s!

  • Currently feeling Oh, and did you know gas is @ $2.91??
  • Song I'm listening to "Limp" by Fiona Apple - loving the lyrics...

Okay... so we were doing a handwriting activity.  I'm a stickler for neat handwriting and being able to write your full name (can you believe some middle schoolers are unable??  ).  Anyway, I had the kids do a worksheet while I walked around to gave feedback or show what I wanted.  One of the things they had to write was the word bananas.  My boy read the word aloud and I was going to praise him until he started singing, "This sh*t is bananas, b-a-n-a-n-a-s..."    "Good job, *****!" died on my lips only to be replaced by a stern reprimand.  It seems that these days, it's inevitable, but.... ugh.  Some parents need to pass a test before having any more children.

School is just crazy.  The class listings we had received within the first week of school were totally redone by the end of the second week, which means some of the students who were just getting used to going to their classes for reading, math and language arts, were to get used to a whole different schedule.  Good times.    Imagine high school transitioning for elementary!!  Teachers are constantly visiting each others' classes asking if they know where so-and-so went.  Some kids end up going to the wrong rooms and getting lost!  All we can do is laugh.    We expect there will be more regrouping and MORE changes to our class listings by next week.

No school today due to the typhoon that is east of us.  It's funny because Kim called me last night as soon as PDN got word that public schools will be closed today.  To that, I said "So that means you're taking me out tonight?"  LOL!    I wasn't kidding and she was up for it!!  Funny thing is we went to our favorite bar, Cloud 9, and not even an hour later I felt hands poke me in my sides from behind - it was another teacher/fellow alumni!  Couldn't help but laugh and wink as I asked what he was doing out on a school night.    BTW, you should hear me speak right now.  My throat is just shot.  OMG... you know, my neighbors are always playing cards outside - they're outside right now!!  Heck, one of the guys I met last night... wait, I just remembered that he knew where I lived before I told him... hmmmm....  ANYWAY, he even knows how some of the people in our complex have casino nightly in the garage.  Well, one of the ladies has a son, a little older than one year.  Geez, would you believe that the mother won't drop her cards even while the child is crying?  And the worst part is sometimes, the men yell at the child if he's outside!!  So the other night, I said loud enough for them to hear (our kitchen window's right where they play cards), "That assh*le needs to quit yelling at that child!!"  Reg just looked at me - he hates when I do that.  LOL!  But come on!!!  What a jerk!

Also wanted to share another story before I ended this post...  A student who was in the first grade last year comes to my class for math and is known for giving his previous teachers a hard time (behaviorally).  I wrote about him in a previous entry (he was the kid my student pee'd on in the restroom one day!), but he's always been pleasant to me.  So far, we get along fine and he knows my expectations.  Anyway, the other day, ****** comes into class.  Like all of my classes, students arrive in a stagger since they come from different classes (I tell you, it's like high school!).  So as I open my mouth to greet the child, he beats me to it by saying, "I'm not here to give you trouble."  He said it so matter-of-factly that I couldn't help but laugh!  In my head, I was like, "Huh??!!  Did I miss something??"    But instead, I said "Why thank you *****, I'm glad to hear that!" with laughter in my voice.  Kids... they say the darndest things!

Sunday looks exciting for us since we're having a get-together at Eileen's house.  Annnnnnnnnnd we get to babysit baby Amber!!!  YAY!!  Really excited but worried she might not take to Reg and me.  We're hoping she can meet with Jules and be playmates for that day because Jules doesn't have many to begin with.  Well, it all depends because the patso is sick.    We were supposed to stay with Reg's Lolo last night (every Tuesday night since the fam goes to the mall and he's alone in the house) but instead, we're watching him tonight.  Usually, Wednesdays through Fridays are our days to hang out with Juk-Juk.  We'll see!
